This chapter explores how Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud used the spatial analogies and imaginative leaps common to design thinking to explore and explain the invisible design they perceived in the world. The advances they made in science and social science show the potential of their methods to advance design in the twenty-first century. The chapter considers the paradox of efficiency to show how such thinking can help us understand and address dilemmas in new ways.
Keywords: spatial analogy, imaginative leaps, Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, paradox of efficiency, design thinking
