Many depict psychiatrist Robert Spitzer as irrational. However, from supporting demedicalization of homosexuality in 1973 to his ex-gay research in 2003, he has maintained the view that homosexuality is a “suboptimal” non-pathological condition. Around him there have been contextual changes that he helped set in motion, including mainstreaming gay affirmative science.
