The seventh and final chapter of For the Children analyzes the challenges and possibilities of small-scale initiatives that struggles to build other forms of public safety beyond prisons and policing. Working with the state is not completely off the table for several reasons, as the state is not inherently good, neutral, or bad. Antiprison organizers have pushed back on the carceral state, but the strategies invoked indicate that society has not fully abandoned all facets or forms of democratic governance.
Minnesota Scholarship Online requires a subscription or purchase to access the full text of books within the service. Public users can however freely search the site and view the abstracts and keywords for each book and chapter.
