This chapter demonstrates that the brain retains the equipotentiality of the egg or embryonic areas. It then tackles the various explanations of equipotentiality given by embryologists and neurologists: quantitative; physiological or psychological; gestaltist; conexionist; Gestalt. Ruyer critiques all of those theories and the chapter closes by showing their insufficiency in general.
