This chapter covers the question of power as “biopower” and the commitment to its neutralization through non-sovereign silence. According to Jacques Derrida’s Literature in Secret, in order to probe the secret of literary silence it is important to discover the inconsistency of a certain iconoclastic fidelity to tradition and prestige, where modernism’s commitment nurtures literary silence and links the structure and demands of sovereignty. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the relation between the silence of humAnimal to politico-theological sovereignty and law, focusing on the structure of the interrelation of juridical law and language, and the conception of the limits of the law.
