Installing Time Spatialized Time and Exploratory Duration

(p.40) 3. Installing Time Spatialized Time and Exploratory Duration

Kate Mondloch

University of Minnesota Press

This chapter evaluates the use of time as a material in more recent film and video installations. It expounds on the relationship between bodies and screens by examining the multiple and sometimes contradictory temporal impulses at work in the presentation of spatialized moving images to moving bodies. It proposes that the individualized, exploratory duration of engaging gallery-based installations is significant to the complexity of media installation in terms of its critical leverage and ideological function.

Keywords:   spatialized time, exploratory duration, temporal impulses, media installation, critical leverage, ideological function
