This chapter analyzes five reparative projects about military conflicts that engage with the affective pleasures and pains of historical witnessing. These projects confront the limits of representation – the selective memories, mediating forces, and often-unrecoverable accounts of suffering that comprise ambivalent witnessing – that, in turn, evince ethical forms of spectatorship.
