This chapter covers existing accounts of Māori writing in English, describing writers who live and publish outside New Zealand and have specific ties to the Pacific. It focuses on Māori poets Robert Sullivan, Vernice Wineera, and Evelyn Patuawa-Nathan, who write about journeys in which Māori start at Aotearoa and venture out into the region. Originally from the Kaihu valley in North Island, Patuawa-Nathan is the only Māori writer published by the South Pacific Creative Arts Society (SPCAS) in Fiji.

Keywords:   Māori writing, New Zealand, Māori poets, Robert Sullivan, Vernice Wineera, Evelyn Patuawa-Nathan, Aotearoa, South Pacific Creative Arts Society, SPCAS
