By examining the ways in which the central city of Jakarta continues to accommodate different practices of life and types of residents, the book attempts to reframe the conventional discussion and analysis of urbanism in the Global South and to demonstrate how these heterogeneities can give rise to new theoretical formulations of urban life in general.
